The design is just poor.
I would recommend that the design team should solicit people who use it (more like trying to) and follow them for practical experience in the store.
I would also suggest that they get ideas from other store apps. For instance my Whole Foods card once scanned, applies all applicable digital coupons to my order. The SR apps digital coupon structure is laughable.
